12 November 2011, Singapore – Yesterday, the Elephant Parade in Singapore kicked off with around 162 painted elephants on display at around 19 locations around Singapore. These elephants will be on display for the first time in Asia till 6 January 2012 after which they will be on viewing for auction from 8 to 11 January 2012, followed by an auction from 12 & 14 January 2012.
The parade features international headliners of celebrities, high profile artists, local personalities and designers such as Rupert Grint, Ricky Gervais, Leona Lewis, Solange Azagury-Patridge, Joss Stone, Paul Smith, Karim Rashid, Sabine Roemer, Ronald Ventura, Ben Cabrera, Jalaini Abu Hassan, Gaurav Kripalani, Dick Lee and Glen Goei. “Elephant Parade is a unique union of contemporary art with conservation, and plays an important role in engendering heightened awareness of humanity’s impacts upon elephant populations while also funding elephant conservation and the variety of efforts required to safeguard these gentle giants,” said Claire Chiang, Ambassador of Elephant Parade Singapore 2011, and Chairman of Wildlife Reserves Singapore.
Part of the proceeds from the two private Elephant Parade – ABN AMRO Private Banking auction events will benefit The Asian Elephant Foundation and the conservation fund of Wildlife Reserves Singapore.
