Singapore Tourism Board and Singapore Hotel Association have collaborated with 15 hotels in Singapore to offer a 10-day Work for Stay programme from 11 December 2017 to 30 March 2018 to expose tertiary students and Singaporean and Permanent Resident jobseekers to day-to-day work operations and culture of the hotel industry. This gives new to industry individuals a better understanding of the job scope and skills required in the industry.
Hotel operations that these individuals will be exposed to include housekeeping, front office, banquet among others. They will get to experience the daily work routine of hotel staff and learn on the job. They will get to attend to guests’ ad-hoc requests, make special arrangements and prepare for events. They will receive a training allowance and a one-night hotel stay upon completing the 10-day programme. Participants will be provided meals and uniforms.

“Work for a Stay aims to give participants the chance to learn about working in a hotel in the most effective way – by gaining on-the-job experience. It will also help hotels to identify promising candidates with a passion for hospitality, and showcase the range of work and life experiences available in hotels. We also felt that the concept of working for a staycation would appeal more to millennials, who treasure unique experiences,” said Ms Ong Huey Hong, Director of Hotels and Sector Manpower, Singapore Tourism Board (STB).
The Work for a Stay programme is part of the Hotel Careers Campaign, which was launched in July 2017 by the Singapore Tourism Board (STB), in partnership with the Singapore Hotel Association (SHA), Food, Drinks and Allied Workers Union and the hotel industry.
