19 October 2011, Singapore – AirAsia’s Tony Fernandes was named today in the inaugural Travel Business Leader Award Asia Pacific for his leadership excellence in driving growth, success and profitability in the tourism industry.
CNBC, First in Business Worldwide award ceremony was held at the Asia Travel Leaders Summit opening dinner at the Marina Bay Sands in Singapore.
Tony’s leadership in the travel industry through Malaysian-based airline AirAsia that was incorporated in 2001, has brought the growth of the low cost carrier which currently flies to 60 destination in 18 countries.
Tony successfully defines a strategic direction for AirAsia and adapts to new market conditions as they arise. He fosters an environment for innovation, creating an open atmosphere for his employees, helping to guide and develop new leaders along the way.
AirAsia has put its effort into serving the ASEAN region. Staff strength has grown from 200 to 5000 since 2001.
