At this year’s Skytrax World Airline Awards, Star Alliance has claimed the Best Airline Alliance title. It also received the Best Airline Alliance Lounge Award for its Los Angeles Lounge at Tom Bradley International Terminal for the second year in a row.
Air New Zealand developed the Alliance’s LAX lounge and manages the facility on behalf of Star Alliance. It can accommodate up to 400 Business Class and Star Alliance Gold passengers and has an additional exclusive area for First Class passengers. The 1,675 square metre lounge was designed by Gensler and features multiple experience zones to accommodate various passenger needs. There is a bar area for socialising, a library space, a den, a study and a media room. High-speed wi-fi, traditional power outlets, USB power ports, tablet computers on request for use in the lounge, and eight shower rooms are some of the features in this lounge. There is also an open air terrace which lets you enjoy panoramic views of the northern runways towards Hollywood Hills. Star Alliance has five Alliance branded lounges around the world. The other four are at Buenos Aires (EZE), Nagoya (NGO), Paris (CDG) and Sao Paulo (GRU).
Star Alliance was the first airline alliance to receive the Best Alliance Award from Skytrax when it was first introduced in 2005 and has since held the award seven times.
13 Star Alliance member carriers has also received distinctions. Five Star Alliance member carriers were ranked in the overall top ten of the world’s best category. Singapore Airlines came in third followed by ANA at fifth, Turkish Airlines at seventh, EVA Air at eighth and Lufthansa at tenth.
26 individual categories were taken by Star Alliance Member carriers.
