21 July 2012, Cancun, Mexico – Virgin Atlantic added its 34th destination on 12 June 2012 operating twice weekly flights between London and Cancun. The airline expects 75,000 customers on that route within the first year, delivering around $25million of tourism revenue to the Cancun market each year. This forecast is calculated based the number of additional travellers to Mexico per year and the average price of a two week holiday to Cancun including spending money.
The service will be operated by a Boeing 747-400 with 14 Upper Class Suites, 58 Premium Economy seats and 379 Economy seats. Virgin Atlantic’s fleet of seven 747s is being given a £50m facelift with new seats being fitted to premium economy and economy cabins and brand new in-flight entertainment.
Celebrating the new Virgin Atlantic route between London and Cancun, Sir Richard Branson walked the wing of the plane with pop sensation Alexandra Burke and comedian Keith Lemon in Cancun during an airside photo call. Keith Lemon performed some airside antics for the crowds.
We definitely to get ourselves on one of these inaugural flights some day!
