The year has started well for Singapore Changi Airport. There were 5.26 million passenger movements in January 2017 which is an increase of 8.2% year-on-year. There were 31,000 landings and takeoffs which is 4,8% higher year-on-year while cargo shipments were steady at 158,690 tonnes.
Air travel demand to and from Southeast Asia, Northeast Asia and South Asia boosted passenger traffic last month. China led the gainers with a strong 31% growth in passenger traffic coinciding with the Lunar New Year holidays at the tail end of January. India had a 14% growth, Indonesia 14% and Malaysia 12%.
Changi’s top 10 cities saw a 18% increase year on year to and from Denpasar while Kuala Lumpur and Jakarta saw healthy growth.
Changi Airport serves 100 airlines which connect Singapore to some 380 cities in around 90 countries and territories worldwide. There are over 7,000 weekly scheduled flights.
New F&B
The Kitchen by Wolfgang Puck opened in Terminal 3 offering dishes unique to Changi Airport such as the Korean beef short ribs with spicy kimchi and Hong Kong styled steamed Scottish Salmon. The World is Flat by Tanuki Raw opened in Terminal 1’s Departure Transit Louge offering craft beer and a selection of cocktails as well as a selection of pizzas and sandwiches available at the bar.
