Singapore Airlines has taken delivery the first of its 67 Airbus A350-900 from the Airbus Delivery Centre in Toulouse, France today in a ceremony attended by Singapore Airlines CEO Mr. Goh Choon Pong, Airbus Executive Vice President Head of Programmes Mr Didier Evrard, Rolls-Royce President – Civil Aerospace, Mr Eric Schulz, as well as invited guests.

The aircraft landed at Singapore Changi Airport at 9.54am on 3 March 2016 and parked at B8 at Terminal 3.

The A350 will be a game-changer for Singapore Airlines allowing for flights to more long-haul destinations on a non-stop basis.

The latest generation in-flight cabin products will be on the A350-900. Singapore Airlines initial batch of A350s will be fitted with 253 seats in three classes:

  • 42 in Business Class
  • 24 in Premium Economy Class
  • 187 in Economy Class

Configuration to be used on medium-range flights as well as the ultra-long-range flights will be announced at a alter date.

The A350-900 features higher ceilings, larger windows, an extra wide body and lighting designed to reduce jet lag

The aircraft will be operated initially on flights within Asia for crew training after which it will be used for services between Singapore and Amsterdam from 9 May 2016. It will also be used for all new services between Singapore and Düsseldorf from July this year.

From 2018, an ultra-long-range variant of the A350 known as the A350-900 ULR will be introduced into the national carrier’s fleet for the relaunch of the world’s longest non stop flight between Singapore and New York as well as to Los Angeles and a third destination in the United States.
