We were on Scoot’s inaugural flight TZ288 from Singapore to Kaoshiung as part of a media familiarisation trip. We gave sleep a miss and headed to Changi Airport at 4am to check in for our flight in Terminal 2. Personally I am not a fan of 6am flights because it usually means I would have to be at the airport at 4am, and counting backwards, I have to leave home at around 3.30am.
The check in queue was pretty long by the time we got there and it was going to be an almost full flight.
Having been at the Hangar to photograph Maju-Lah with aircraft registration 9V-OJE, Scoot’s fifth and newest Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner on Monday of the same week, we were excited to be flying on this brand new aircraft to Kaohsiung. The aircraft had already made a trip to Bangkok the day before on its first commercial flight.
Before boarding the aircraft at the holding gate area, there was a lucky draw where
Scoot had assigned us Super Seats in the Scoot-In-Silence cabin located in between Scootbiz and Economy cabins. With adjustable head rests, a seat width of 19-20″, 34-36″ seat pitch and more leg room, this is the cabin to be in if you want more comfort and away from screaming children under 12.
During the four hour flight, we had Nasi Lemak on board and slept most of the way. Games were played on board where some of the guests won themselves Scoot souvenirs.
Cabin Crew on board also performed Scoot’s signature dance on board when the cabin was transformed into a myriad of rainbow mood lighting colours.
In seat power supply can also turned on for a fee of S$5 to S$8 so you can charge you devices onboard during the flight. Wi-Fi is also available on board Scoot’s Dreamliner fleet at a very affordable US$16.95 for three hours.
We landed on time at Kaohsiung Airport with a welcome water cannon salute which is usually accorded to an airline’s first flight to the airport.
The flight took slightly over four hours to reach our destination and upon arrival we were quickly whisked through immigration to land side for an officiating ceremony of dance and performances as well as speeches and gift exchanges by Scoot and Kaohsiung Airport and Government officials. Meanwhile, TZ288 was on its way to Osaka and would return later in the day to pick up passengers in Kaohsiung before heading back to Singapore.
We stayed on to visit various landmarks in Kaohsiung, Pintung and Kenting till 11 July. Look out for our post on that but meanwhile check out some of our group photos.
