Samsonite is introducing Track&Go, a built in bluetooth beacon device allowing a case to be easily and privately tracked by its owner. The beacon will use Eddystone Ephemeral Identifiers (EIDs), an open privacy and security protocol by Google.
The Bluetooth beacon has been designed and manufactured by Accent Systems. It will be built into the Track&Go suitcase and has to be registered by the owner through the free Travlr by Samsonite App which was launched in September last year. The app offers flight tracking, tips and reminders when travelling.
The new Track&Go feature will be built into the existing app so users can easily check the location of the suitcase within a distance of 70 metres and be notified if it is being moved closer of further away from the user.
If the suitcase is missing, the owner can easily flag it as lost in the app where the app leverages its user base to help the suitcase’s owner find it. Should anyone else, using the app, pass within 70 metres of the lost suitcase, an EID-based signal is picked up. This triggers a notification with location and time details of the suitcase to be sent out to the owner.
Samsonite plans to launch the first suitcases with Track&Go in the European market at the end of this year followed by other international markets.
