Residence G in Hong Kong is the perfect hotel for me. No one disturbs you here. Head up to the third floor of this nondescript building at Austin Road in Tsim Sha Tsui to check in and then you are off to your room. And it is quite secured here. You need a keycard to access the building.
Residence G is managed by the folks at GCP Hospitality which also manages Campus and Bay Bridge by Hotel G in Hong Kong and The Strand in Myanmar which is scheduled to reopen 15 November this year. Under its portfolio, there is also the Pullman Bangkok Hotel G and Pullman Pattaya Hotel G in Thailand, the Hotel G San Francisco in the US and also the soon to open Hotel G in Singapore amongst other properties in China and Myanmar.
The concrete walls here give the hotel a chic feel. It is consistent throughout the hotel, in the lobby and also the rooms. The design-led hotel is what makes the stay here a pleasant and comfortable one. In fact, all Hotels G are attitude lifestyle hotels with strong design identities that create a genuine and in-vogue experience with F&B recognised by both locals and travellers. Their target audience are guests who are sensitive to design, culture and entertainment looking for an alternative atmosphere.
Take a look at the Key Card. Isn’t it just G – Great? Guests at Residence G Hong Kong enjoy complimentary Wi-Fi, daily newspaper, coffee-tea making facilities, pillow menu, Handy Phone, DVD Player upon request, portable kitchen facilities and utensils upon request, exclusive access to the lounge and open-air space and secretarial service upon request. My room had a bluetooth speaker which was great to pair my music from Spotify.
Design in Residence G Hong Kong Rooms
The rooms here range from 30 sqm to 106 sqm. There are three room categories and are not complicated in their naming conventions. There is the Good, Greater and Greatest rooms.
The Living Room at Residence G Hong Kong
I stayed in the Greater room. Two rooms have been combined together. There are two toilets, one in the living room and another in the bedroom. The shower room in the living room is converted into a store room and there is a functional shower room in the bed room. What surprised me was the space, given that rooms in Hong Kong tend to be more compact.
The living room is huge. It is split into two distinct areas. On one side there is a huge wooden block that works as a seat but I’ll lie there and relax.
On the other side you get a high table with stools for you to get some work done or just to snack and enjoy a cuppa coffee or tea. There is also a sink and some open storage spaces for you to hang your clothes as well as some drawers to keep your unmentionables out of sight. That means the bed room offers a clean space just for you to shower and rest. You’ll need to walk to the living room to get your clothes.
Hotel guests get two bottles of mineral water and a welcome snack.
The Bedroom at Residence G Hong Kong
The bed room is spacious and the bed is very comfortable. Fabulous for a great night’s sleep. You can also watch television in the room and air-conditioning is separately controlled in the bedroom and the living room. Air conditioning in the rooms are very powerful so you won’t have to worry about feeling too warm in the rooms.
You get an excellent view from the room. Rosary Catholic Church is located in front of the hotel and enjoy a beautiful sunset. You can walk to Jordan or Tsim Sha Tsui MTR but that takes around 10 minutes depending on your walking speed. May not be too ideal if it is raining. The Hong Kong Museum of History as well as the Hong Kong Science Museum are located near the hotel.
Showering at Residence G Hong Kong
The shower cubicle is cosy. The glass door is transparent. That means if you are sharing your room with a friend, your friend sees everything when you are showering. Be warned!
You have a choice of rain shower or just the normal shower to reach places that can’t be reached with the rain shower. We love the water pressure!
Residence G Hong Kong provides its guests with Co Bigelow toiletries so you don’t have to bring your own when staying here. But I still bring along my Aesop facial products with me whenever I travel.
Scarlett Cafe & Wine Bar
Scarlett Cafe & Wine Bar is the only food and beverage outlet here. It is open for dinner daily and offers brunch over the weekends. The trendy outlet is perfect for parties and gatherings for friends and that was exactly what happened when I was there. Gathered a few friends together and had a great night of food and lots of alcohol. There were about eight of us and we spent close to S$1,000. We had a fabulous time.
We had a charcuterie set of meat, salads and some other hot food. It was fond memories that night which make me want to return to stay again the next time I visit Hong Kong.
