2 February 2012, Jimbaran Bay, Bali – Today, I released a baby turtle back into the sea for the first time in my life.
Day 4 in Bali, I decided to take on this hotel guest activity at the InterContinental Bali that usually happens at 5pm on Thursday and Sunday.
These turtles are considered an endangered species in Indonesia’s coastal waves. InterContinental Bali has collaborated with the Turtle Conservation and Education Centre here and recommends its guests to participate in their Turtle Release programme.
Adopt a newly hatched turtle and release it into the waters of Jimbaran Bay just before sunset. Trust me! The feeling is so good. Seeing the little turtle from the bowl, carrying it and playing with it or posing with it for photo memories and then eventually releasing them on the beach as you bid farewell to your adopted turtle as it swims into the oceanic world.
After all this, you will receive a signed certificate, professional photograph and a souvenir token for supporting this worthy cause. This memorable activity costs RP225,000++ per turtle. Most of the proceeds collected are returned to the conservation centre to run the centre.
