Singapore Airshow 2014 showcased many commercial aircraft during the trade days including the mammoth Airbus A350-900xwb, SilkAir’s 25th aircraft it just collected from Seattle (Boeing 737-800NG) and also Qatar Airways’ ninth and newest Boeing 787 Dreamliner.
In the four days it was displayed at the Singapore Airshow this year, over 450 people enjoyed an exclusive tour of the aircraft. Qatar Airways will be operating the Dreamliner alongside its existing fleet of Boeing 777s on its Singapore – Doha sector. (Read the article here) This will be the airline’s first route in Southeast Asia to use the Dreamliner aircraft.
Qatar Airways’ Business Class herringbone seating arrangement is spacious and comfortable. There are 22 full flat bed seats in business class in a 1-2-1 configuration and a 17″ inflight entertainment screen. Last year Qatar Airways was awarded SKYTRAX Business Class of the Year 2013.
In Economy class there are 232 seats in a 3-3-3 layout though we prefer the 2-4-2 layout found in the Japan Airlines’ Boeing 787 Dreamliners. Wi-Fi connectivity is offered on board. Qatar Airways’ Dreamliners are powered by General Electric GEnx.
Qatar continues to invest in new aircraft and new routes as well as move its hub to the new Hamad International Airport in Doha. It has nine Boeing 787 Dreamliners in its fleet and has 51 more on order. It currently operates 14 flights weekly between Singapore and Doha and recently celebrated a decade of operations in the island-state.
Qatar Airways was the Middle East launch customer for the Dreamliner.
Qatar Airways is in its 17th year of operations and has a fleet of 129 aircraft flying to 134 key business and leisure destinations across six continents. It joined the oneworld Alliance on 30 October last year, becoming the first Gulf carrier to join a global airline alliance. During the Dubai Air Show last year, it placed orders for more than 60 new aircraft comprising a mixture of Boeing 777X and Airbus A330 Freighters. It has more than 280 aircraft on order worth more than US$50 billion.
