The next time you’re headed to an Australian city, you may want to consider flying business class on Australian national carrier Qantas. Qantas offers a fabulous business class product that promises to offer comfort, luxury and convenience for the discerning or business traveller. That was not something the Airline told me nor did it come from Qantas’ advertising. I personally experienced it for myself late last year.
Check in at Changi International Airport’s Premier check in lounge in Terminal 1 after which you can clear immigration and proceed to the Qantas Lounge which opened in April last year where you can enjoy Neil Perry hot meals prepared on the spot or from the buffet spread. You can also pre order your meals before you take off. Read about that here.
If you needed to freshen up, you can utilise one of the shower rooms at the Qantas Lounge before embarking on your journey.
I flew on the red eye flight, QF6 which departs Singapore daily at 11.25pm and arrives in Sydney at 8.55am so that you can start the day off in the morning when you arrive. It’s also great to just sleep the night away after you transform your seat into a full-flat bed enroute to Sydney.
Pyjamas suits or provided on Business Class for red eye flights so you can get a comfortable night’s rest.
An amenity kit by Kate Spade (for women) and Jack Spade (for men) is given to every customer so that you can keep yourself moisturised or refresh yourself anytime you want to. Read our review about the Qantas Business Class amenity kit here.
We understand that Qantas will operate their Airbus A330-200/300 and Boeing B747-400 aircraft between Singapore and Australian cities. I flew on the Boeing B747-400 and sat in the nose section from Singapore to Sydney and on the upper deck of the same aircraft type back to Singapore.
The business class seats on its fleet of international aircraft are full-flat seats and come in a ‘cocoon’ offering the privacy you require when sleeping. There is also a board which you can raise or retract should you want to screen yourself away from the person seated next to you. Business class seats are in a 2-3-2 configuration.
However, I would recommend sitting in the nose section of the lower deck and the upper deck of the Boeing 747-400’s as the business class seats here are in a 2-2 configuration and are also smaller and hence offer a more exclusive area with fewer passengers.
I came back to Singapore on QF5 and took the chance to sit in the upper deck of the Boeing 747-400 aircraft. The feeling was ecstatic being my first in this jumbo jet’s upper deck. Selecting a window seat by the emergency exit also gave me more space without it being blocked by the back of the ‘Cocoon’ seat. (I rely on www.seatguru.com to check out which are the best seats as well as the worst seats to avoid.)
The upper deck cabin of the Boeing 747-400 offers side storage just below the windows for passengers sitting next to the windows. They are there so you can easily access your belongings without having to get out of your comfortable seat. It is also great for storing newspapers, your shoes or blankets if you do not require them. Slippers are not provided by Qantas so bring along those disposable slippers provided by hotels. They come in really handy when flying.
Dining on board is fabulous with a selection of alcoholic and non alcoholic beverages and inflight dining by Neil Perry served on Marc Newson tableware. With inflight entertainment to keep you busy, it is definitely nice being able to have your meal and watch your favourite movie at the same time
The overall Business Class experience has been a pleasant and memorable one. I was pampered and I had an enjoyable flight. If you ask me, I will definitely fly again on Qantas’ Business Class.
