Qantas has announced that its Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner will make its inaugural international service on 15 December 2017 from Melbourne to Los Angeles, subject to government and regulatory approvals. The Dreamliner will carry 236 customers in a three-class configuration and complement the daily Airbus A380 service already flying the route. The Dreamliner will operate six times weekly and replace the 747 service that current operates on this route with the A380.
This additional takes the total number of Qantas services on the route from nine to 13 return flights per week. Customers have the option of a morning or afternoon departure from Melbourne on most days. The net capacity increase is approximately 1,400 seats in total. Fares will go on sale from Christmas Day 2016.
