Singapore Changi Airport handled 55.4 million passengers and 346,330 landings and take-offs in 2015. This is the highest number in the history of the world’s seventh busiest airport. Over 39 million baggages were handled last year.
In December last year, 5.29 million passengers travelled through the airport which is the highest ever since the airport opened in 1981. Christmas Day saw 192,000 passengers passing through, the airport’s highest daily record.
Jakarta continues to be the busiest route with 3.79 million passenger movements last year. Garuda Indonesia celebrated its 50 years in Singapore at an event in Terminal 3 airside outside gate B5 on 26 January 2016. The Indonesian airline operates 10 daily flights between Singapore and Jakarta.
The other busy routes include Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Hong Kong and Manila. Bangkok was the second fastest growing route among destinations with at least half a million passengers handled in 2015. The other four destinations include Colombo, Guangzhou, Mumbai and Tokyo.

Changi Airport New Airlines and Destinations in 2015
Seven new airlines commenced operations at Changi Airport last year. Air New Zealand resumed services from Singapore to Auckland in a joint-partnership with Singapore Airlines operating on a Boeing 787 Dreamliner. Batik Air, Thai Lion Air and Myanmar National Airlines, Oman Air inaugurated flights to Singapore.
New destinations from Changi Airport included Changchun, Quanzhou, Sanya and Yinchuan in CHINA, Cairns in AUSTRALIA, Lucknow in INDIA, Luang Prabang in LAOS, Pattaya (U-Tapao) in THAILAND and Cincinnati in the US (Freighter Link).
On 1 June 2015, Qatar Airways added its third daily flight to Singapore operated on the Airbus A350XWB. You can read about that here. Jetstar Australia replaced its aircraft for its direct flights between Singapore and the Australian city of Melbourne to the Boeing 787 Dreamliner second half of last year. British Airways opened its new airport lounge at Terminal 1 next to the Qantas lounge in September last year featuring a Concorde Bar for FIRST passengers.
Star Wars at Changi Airport
Last year was the year for Star Wars. Changi Airport and All Nippon Airways (ANA) had activities revolving around the blockbuster movie at the airport. ANA flew in its Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner with the R2-D2 livery to Singapore for a few days allowing guests and privileged few to go on board for a Star Wars experience. Some even got the chance to go on board to watch a Star Wars movie while enjoying a meal in its business class cabin. Within Changi Airport, there was a display of the Star Wars X-Wing fighter in Terminal 3 while display of Stormtroopers with Tie fighter is being displayed at Terminal 2 for fans to shoot selfies with. Fast And Seamless Travel
Last year, Changi Airport Group also launched Fast And Seamless Travel (FAST) allowing passengers to check in and print their own baggage tags on their own speeding up the check in process. To day, this service is offered for all Singapore Airlines and SilkAir flights as well as on Jetstar flights.
The airport received its 500th Best Airport Award last November, amongst the other 27 ‘Best Airport Awards including the World’s Best Airport accolade at the 2015 Skytrax World Airport Awards. To date there are over over 100 airlines providing connectivity to 320 cities worldwide. Over 6,800 flights are handled per week at around one every 90 seconds.
