New Taipei City 新北市, located at the northern tip of Taiwan, is the place to visit this year. Much importance is placed on this Taiwanese destination, so much so the Mayor of New Taipei City, Eric Liluan Chu came down to Singapore personally with K.W. Chang, the Chairman of EVA Air in a joint event with EVA Air held last Friday 6 March 2015 at Pan Pacific Hotel Singapore as well as to pop by NATAS Travel Fair over the weekend. 53 year old Mayor Eric Liluan Chu also recently took office as the Chairman of the Kuomintang on 19 January 2015 and has been Mayor of New Taipei since Christmas of 2010.
New Taipei City was previously known as Taipei County before 2010. Surrounding Taipei City, the county’s population overtook Taipei City and was hence upgraded to city status. As at December 2014, New Taipei City has a population of slightly under 4 million. New Taipei City is about 14 km away from downtown Taipei and is 32 minutes drive away from Taoyuan airport.
Singaporeans travelling to Taiwan has doubled over the past five years with over 75% of the 400,000 Singaporeans visiting for leisure.

Nine travel itineraries to popular destinations and six major festivals in New Taipei City have been picked including Pingxi, Shuangxi, Shuinandong, Yingge, Xindian, Bali, Sanzhi, Shimen, Jinshan, Wanli, Gongliao, Fulong. A major festival highlight in New Taipei City is Pingxi’s Sky Lantern Festival. It is the second largest night festival and named in 2014’s Top 14 Festivals by Fodor’s.
