Inmarsat network will be offering a free global airline tracking service following the loss of Malaysian Airlines flight MH370. Some 11,000 commercial passenger aircraft are already equipped with an Inmarsat satellite connection.

Inmarsat will also offer an enhanced position reporting facility to support reduced in-flight aircraft separation and also a ‘black box in the cloud’ service. The black box in the cloud service will be triggered based on certain defined trigger events such as an unapproved course deviation and historic and real-time flight data recorder and cockpit voice recorder information will be streamed off an aircraft to defined aviation safety recipients.
