13 July, 2011, Thailand – Over 50 million tourists travel the world for golf making up the largest sports-related travel market in the world.
Recently, over 3,389 tourists from 68 countries were surveyed by the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT). Its beaches and islands are the biggest draw, with golf proving to be popular. In fact, more golf courses are being opened to cope with the growing demand.
The new Royal Gems Golf City in Bangkok replicates famous holes including the Road Hole at St Andrews and the back nine at Augusta. Kaho Yai is one of the newer golfing destinations in Thailand. Just two hours north of Bangkok, this national park offers cooler weather and a number of first class golf courses that are surrounded by mountains, waterfalls and exotic wildlife.
Besides the great seaside, mountain and city golf courses in Thailand, their best kept secret has to be the beautiful caddies. They smile infectiously while giving you the yardage, reading the greens or holding your umbrella.
TAT will be conducting other more specific surveys on Eco tourism and golf tourism destinations. For more information on Golf in a Kingdom – The Thai Golf Experience, or to make travel plans in Thailand, visit www.golfinakingdom.com
