Changi Airport T4 is scheduled to commence operations in 2017 with more than 70% of terminal building construction completed. Topping-out is expected before the end of the year.
AirAsia Berhad, Indonesia AirAsia, Thai AirAsia, Korean Air and Vietnam Air will operate from the 195,000 sqm T4 when it opens. They join Cathay Pacific Airways which was the first airline to announce the shift to the new terminal. Cathay Pacific has also previously announced that they will open a new lounge in T4 featuring its new state-of-the-art design facilities seen in its new lounges opened recently in Bangkok and Manila.
These six airlines operate close to 800 flights every week at Changi Airport and collectively account for close to seven million passenger movements last year.
Other airlines are expected to operate at Changi Airport T4 from the start and forecasts between eight and ten million passenger movements in the initial period of operations. The terminal can handle 16 million passenger movements annually. Capacity for expansion will also be created for airlines in the airport’s three other existing terminals which currently operate at more than 80% of the aggregate design capacity of 66 million passenger movements per year.
T4 features fast and seamless travel (FAST) initiative such as self-service and automated check-in and back drop as well as immigration clearance and boarding. Facial recognition technology will be introduced at T4 to supplement FAST eliminating the need for manual verification at departure check in and aircraft boarding.
