Review: Finnair Marimekko Business Class Amenity Kit

I have a fondness for Marimekko designs. In fact, the blue on its designs is my favourite colour. Finnair has been collaborating with the Finnish design house for over three years with its Airbus A340 painted in Marimekko’s iconic blue Unikko print by Maija Isola since 2012. The airline’s fleet has been featuring a Marimekko for Finnair collection of textiles and tableware since Spring 2013.

In Business Class, Finnair offers retrofitted Zodiac Vantage long full-flat bed seats with massage options on 12 of its Airbus A330s and A340 aircraft. The seats transform into a 200cm long horizontal bed. These full flat seats are flown on intercontinental routes from Helsinki to Beijing, Hanoi, Hong Kong, Nagoya, New York, Osaka, Seoul, Shanghai and Tokyo.

Its A350 service offers onboard Wi-Fi where full internet access is complimentary for Business Class passengers as well as higher tier frequent flyer members. Electricity sockets are also available without any adaptor required.  The airline has ordered a total of 19 new A350-900XWB from Airbus. As at end September this year, it received seven A350s and will have 11 A350 aircraft by end 2017 and 19 by end 2023.

Finnair recently took two awards from the 2016 World Traveller Awards in China. It was awarded the Best Business Class and Best Inflight Catering Airline. It is also the only carrier operating the Airbus A350XWB in mainland China It flies to Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong.

A pair of disposable cushioned cloth slippers are also offered for long haul flights. They are rather comfortable. Socks, shaving kit, mouthwash, hairbrush and makeup remover wipes are also available on request. We understand that there are a few different amenity kit wash bag designs and they were first introduced in 2015. Model aircraft not included.

Each kit contains a large soft and comfortable eye mask, a pair of ear plugs, toothbrush and Colgate toothpaste. Two 5ml Clarins products are also included in the kit – a moisture replenishing lip balm with essential rose wax and HydraQuench Cream for normal to dry skin. All these products are contained within a not too big canvas cloth wash bag that has a water proof lining within.
