AirAsia X has been given the green light from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to fly to the US, making it the first Asian low-cost carrier to secure approval to operate scheduled passenger flights to the US. The airline is considering flights to several US states including Hawaii as part of its route expansion plans.

The low-cost carrier’s expansion plans have been concentrated on Asia, Australasia and the Middle East. It is willing to look beyond these regions after previously cutting flights to Paris and London in March 2012.

We were not able to get any firm dates when Bangkok – Frankfurt flights as well as Kuala Lumpur (KLIA2) – London flights will be launched. A spokesperson indicated that dates have not been finalised yet as the airline is still in the process of securing necessary approvals. I flew on AirAsia X to London some time back for the AirAsia British MotoGP and kinda miss that flight.
