In the future, you will only need one card for your transport and possibly low ticket purchases when you are in Singapore or when visiting Taiwan. This will save you trouble of buying another transit card and refunding it before you return home.
Today EZ-Link Pte Ltd and EasyCard Corporation signed a memorandum of understanding with the aim to combine the two smart card systems to offer a cross border Combi-Card with an estimated time frame of one year. The Combi-Card will contain separate “purses” to store both Singapore and Taiwanese currencies.
The collaboration will also allow both parties to exchange ideas and solutions to stay relevant in this evolving environment. EZ-Link will share its pioneer e-ticketing technology with EasyCard Corporation with the goal of offering electronic tickets to popular tourist attractions to visitors between the two countries.
EasyCard has issued over 45 million cards since launch in 2002 while EZ-Link has issued 17 million CEPAS ez-link cards. Some 400,000 Singaporeans have visited Taiwan last year while Singapore welcomed around 360,000 Taiwanese last year.
EZ-Link has been in talks to roll out similar services in other travel destinations popular amongst Singaporeans such as Japan, South Korea and China.
