Etihad Airways and Lufthansa German Airlines will go into a codeshare arrangement from January 2017, subject to government approval. The German airline will place its ‘LH’ code on Etihad Airways’ twice daily non stop flights between Abu Dhabi and Frankfurt and its twice daily non-stop services between Abu Dhabi and Munich. Etihad Airways will also place its ‘EY’ code on Lufthansa’s Frankfurt to Rio de Janeiro and Bogota flights.
Lufthansa will also lease 38 airberlin aircraft for its point-to-point carrier Eurowings and its network carrier Austrian Airlines. 33 of these aircraft will be operated by the Eurowings Group. The remaining five will be flown for Austrian Airlines. The agreement has a term of six years and comes to effect from February 2017 subject to any regulatory requirements.
