Nestled amidst the lush landscapes of central Taiwan, Sun Moon Lake beckons travellers with its serene beauty and cultural richness. Taiwan’s largest natural lake is celebrated for its stunning vistas. This idyllic destination captivates visitors with its crystalline waters reflecting the surrounding emerald mountains. Whether you seek tranquillity amid the misty mornings, adventure along its scenic trails, or immersion in the Indigenous Thao culture, Sun Moon Lake offers an enchanting escape where nature and heritage harmoniously converge, promising an unforgettable journey into Taiwan’s heartland.

The upscale Wyndham Sun Moon Lake in Yuchi County, a 15-storey hotel, houses 203 rooms. Although it is not situated directly on the waterfront, it is conveniently close to the lake. Guests arriving at Taipei’s Taoyuan International Airport can take the high-speed rail from Tao Yuan station to Taichung. Additionally, there will be scheduled shuttle services from Taichung Train Station to the hotel. The grand opening was held on 18 June 2024. The partnership between Lealea Group‘s Lealea Hotels & Resorts and Wyndham Hotels & Resorts has led to the successful launch of Wyndham’s third hotel in Taiwan and Lealea Group’s second Wyndham property, following the opening of Ramada Encore by Wyndham Hualien in 2020.

Experience the vibrant atmosphere of the Ita Thao Shopping District, where you can indulge in a variety of street food and browse through numerous souvenir shops. Here, you can purchase local specialities like red tea and rice wine, both renowned products of Sun Moon Lake.

For a different perspective of the area, take a scenic cruise on the lake to fully appreciate its natural beauty. You can charter a cruise at Wyndham Sun Moon Lake. The district also offers convenience with two 24-hour stores, Family Mart and 7-Eleven, ensuring you have everything you need at any time of day or night.

Wyndham Sun Moon Lake is just minutes away from iconic attractions such as the Sun Moon Lake Ropeway, Nine Frogs Stack, and Wenwu Temple. We’ll need to return to explore more of Sun Moon Lake, as we didn’t have much time to visit these spots on this trip.

The hotel was fully occupied during the grand opening but we managed to view the Presidential Suite and Family Room.

Presidential Suite and Family Rooms

The presidential suite on level 13 is impressive, with an equally prosperous room number 1308. The two bedrooms are separated by a spacious living and dining room. Balconies offered stunning views. The master bedroom does not have the hot tubs but instead feature a western bath tub. The hot tub is in the second bedroom.

The Family Room offers a different colour palate in the room with pastel shades of blue or pink perfect for families with children. A tipee tent has been set up in the room for kids to enjoy. Otherwise, the room has the same configuration of the Standard Room.

Buffet breakfasts in Taiwan are a paradise for those with large appetites due to the extensive variety and high quality of food available each morning. The Gourmet Kitchen, situated on the first floor, provides an exceptional breakfast spread to kickstart your day. In addition to breakfast, they also serve buffet lunches and dinners, ensuring a delightful dining experience throughout the day.

The all-day dining buffet restaurant offers Abalone Porridge or Omu Egg cooked ala minute amongst other sumptuous dishes on the extensive breakfast buffet spread. Make your own fresh juice, or enjoy Taylors tea, machine hot coffee and a selection of packet drinks.
