Crowne Plaza Changi Airport, the only hotel branded under an international chain (InterContinental Hotel Group) adds another 243 Business Rooms in its new Jewel Wing to complement the existing 320 rooms from its existing building.
Designed by WOHA who has also designed the main building, the new wing was developed by OUE Limited using Prefabricated Prefinished Volumetric Construction techniques. This means that the rooms came prefabricated with permanent fixtures such as the bath tubs and desks amongst others. Think LEGO, and you’ll understand the construction process.
WOHA is also the architect firm that designed other hotels in Singapore including Far East Hospitality’s newly opened Oasia Downtown Hotel and Pan Pacific Hotel Group’s PARKROYAL on Pickering.
The 10 storey extension Jewel Wing houses two new room categories from level two onwards. The Business King is 28sqm while the double-bedded Business Twin measures 38sqm.
The existing building offers larger rooms than the Business King in three categories. There are 27 suites and 293 Deluxe and Premier rooms in the original wing.
Crowne Plaza Changi Airport caters to both Leisure and Business travellers on transit as well as locals who check in for staycations. With meeting rooms available and close proximity to Singapore Expo via MRT from Changi Airport one stop later, the hotel has been popular for business meetings without the need to get away from the airport.
Business King Rooms
Great for the single traveller, the Business King Rooms offers the necessity for those travelling on business. Enter the room and you are greeted by cabinets and a work desk instead of the bathroom. The work desk provides two international power sockets that allows you to power up your devices without the need of carrying a travel adapter. Two USB ports are also provided so you can charge your smart devices a the same time. There are also power sockets in other parts of the room with the exception of one conveniently located next to your bed.
After the desk is a king sized bed with a Simmons mattress. The bed faces a 40 inch smart LED television with Miracast and Airplay-enabled functions which is fitted in front of a mirror to create a bigger room feel.
You then walk into a very inviting bathroom with a separate shower and bathtub. You can close the see through glass door for privacy using Polymer Dispersed Liquid Crystal film-enabled switchable privacy smart glass panels. The bathrooms here are exceptionally spacious. And you can take a bath while overlooking the main building.
Business Twin Rooms
The Business Twin rooms are larger than the Business King room with two super single beds. Enjoy views of the construction of Jewel Changi Airport on the day beds by the window. Construction of Jewel Changi Airport is expected to be completed in 2019. You also get a pretty good view of the runway so you can spot airplanes taking off or landing. The glass is double glazed and coated so you do not hear any noise from outside.
The Business Twin bathroom also comes with a separate bathroom and shower The single wash basin bathroom is also pretty spacious.
Amenities
The work desk in the Business Twin and Business King rooms come equipped with two international electrical sockets and two USB charging ports. The work desk is complemented by a Herman Miller ergonomic swivel chair. If you’re working from your laptop and need to print out a document, wireless printing is offered. Print from your room and the documents will can be self collected at the Business Centre, or you could request for the documents to be delivered to your room.
A Handy phone is also provided for complimentary use during your stay. The phone lets you call overseas to 11 countries for free using VOIP technology. Bring the Handy phone along with you when you head out and tether data from it as you use your personal phone for messaging, emails or surfing the net.
Enjoy a good night’s rest with the Elemis quiet mind room mist. This standard Crowne Plaza standard is from the Elemis Sp@Home Body Soothing Range. The room mist contains blended aromatic oils from patchouli, eucalyptus and ho wood. It helps to soothe and comfort the mind, promoting a sound and restful sleep. Spray onto the bed linen as well as around the room, allowing it to dry before you sleep.
Every room also comes with a Klipsch Bluetooth-enabled speaker so you can enjoy your own music from your tablet, smartphone or MP3 device.
Amenities provided in the bathrooms are quite standard across all the rooms at the Crowne Plaza Changi Airport. The hotel is generous to provide three bottles of water instead of the common two bottles per day.
These geranium essential oil scented shower gel, shampoo, conditioner and body lotion are from London-based Irish fashion designer Orla Kiely. We absolutely love the rather retro design and colours on the label.
An electric kettle is provided so you can make your own Nescafe instant coffee or a small selection of teas from Dilmah.
It is no wonder Crowne Plaza Changi Airport has been named the World’s Best Airport Hotel by Skytrax World Airport Awards in 2015 and 2016.
