24 June 2011, Philippines – Philippines largest national flag carrier, Cebu Pacific has ordered 30 new Airbus A321neo and 7 A320 aircraft to be delivered from the second half of 2011 until 2014, valued at approximately USD 3.8 billion, the largest single aircraft order ever made by a Philippine carrier.
This increases Cebu Pacific’s total firm orders of Airbus aircraft to 55. It has flown more than 50 million passengers since its inception in 1996 and carried more than 12 million passengers in 2011 and achieved a year-on-year growth of 19% in 2010. Last April and May, it broke local aviation records by carrying over 1 million passengers per month.
These 220 seater A321neos will be a first of its type to operate in the Philippines, being a larger and longer-haul version of the A320. They will allow Cebu Pacific to fly to Australia, India and Northern Japan.
With a lower unit cost per seat, Cebu Pacific will be able to offer lower fares to customers.
Cebu Pacific’s existing brand new fleet includes 25 Airbus A320 and 8 ATR turbo-prop aircraft. By 2021, Cebu Pacific will more than double its fleet and triple its capacity.
