AirAsia Takes Delivery of first A320neo

AirAsia, Airbus’s biggest airline customer for the A320 family, took delivery of its first A320neo (aircraft registration D-AXAA) at a ceremony in Hamburg yesterday. South East Asia’s first CFM International LEAP-1A powered A320neo and the second in the world, AirAsia’s A320neo is equipped with a Space Flex Cabin. The aircraft has 186 seats. This is airbus’s 17th A320neo delivered to date.

AirAsia has a total of 575 aircraft ordered of which 404 are A320neo Family. The low cost carrier recently signed its latest firm order for 100 A321neo aircraft at the recent Farnborough Airshow.

Th A320neo Family provides operators with double digit improvements in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions, with a 15% reduction at entry into service and up to a 20% reduction by 2020. It incorporates the latest technologies including new generation engines and Sharklet wing tip devices. Over nearly 4,800 orders received from 87 customers since launch in 2010, the A320neo Family has captured some 60% share of the market
