AirAsia will be the launch customer for the Mirus Aircraft Seating Ltd’s Hawk slimline economy seats. AirAsia Group CEO Tony Fernandes signed an official agreement at the Aircraft Interiors Expo in Hamburg, Germany with Mirus Aircraft Seating Ltd’s CEO Phil Hall.

As part of the deal, the Malaysian low cost carrier will retrofit all its existing and new Airbus A320 aircraft with the lightweight seats. The Hawk is made of a fully composite frame and uses fewer moving parts and has been engineered to deliver significant cabin space and weight savings while preserving passenger comfort. This seat is close to 40% lighter than conventional seats.
