8 October 2012, Sepang – Low cost carrier AirAsia has been awarded their sixth ‘Best Asian Low-Cost Carrier’ at the 23rd Annual TTG Travel Awards in Bangkok recently. AirAsia was voted winner of this category in 2005, 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011.
Some 700 members of the Asia-Pacific travel trade attended the event. From June to August, around 60,000 valid votes were garnered, a 20 percent increase from last year.
AirAsia Thailand Director of Business Development, M.L. Bovornovadep Devakula, represented AirAsia Group to receive the award. In 2009, Tony Fernandes was named ‘Travel Personality of the Year’ by the editorial board of TTG.
This award is the airline’s latest accolade this year after it received Aviation Week’s Top-Performing Airlines 2012 on 5 July 2012. AirAsia was also ranked highest in the US $250 million-$2 billion annual revenue category. On 13 July, 19 million air travellers voted AirAsia the winner of the annual Skytrax’s World’s Best Low-Cost Airline for the fourth consecutive year.
AirAsia has flown over 150 million guests in ten years of its tenure with a mission to democratize air travel in the region. The airline has been operationally profitable since the first day of launch as a low-cost carrier. The airline also has established affiliates in Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines and Japan and Malaysia is servicing 80 destinations across 20 countries.
