Air Serbia received its first wide-body aircraft at Nikola Tesla Airport this week as part of its major re-fleeting programme that began in 2013. The national airline of the Republic of Serbia will use the Airbus A330 on its Belgrade – New York route when it launches on 23 June 2016. This will be the first time in 24 years, Serbia is reconnected to the United States.
The aircraft, captained by Davor Mišeljić the Chief Operations Officer of Air Serbia, landed in Belgrade on 10 May 2016 and was greeted by a traditional water cannon salute and a delegation of airline representatives. The aircraft will now be registered with the Serbian Civil Aviation Directorate before returning to Abu Dhabi for the final outfitting of its interior cabins.
The A330 is configured with 18 seats in Business Class and 236 in Economy Class and will be operated on its new five weekly service between Belgrade and New York. The A330 aircraft will also feature inflight entertainment systems at every seat featuring a selection of films, movies and other entertainment in Serbian and English, lie-flat seats in Business Class and redesigned menus, including a dine-on-demand service for Business Class guests.
The airline intends to introduce ten modern narrow-body Airbus aircraft in just over two years, reducing the average age of its jet fleet from 25 to 10 years.
