Aeroflot was placed second in the annual State of In-Flight WiFi Survey compiled by US flights portal Routehappy comparing WiFi provision among global carriers. The survey also revealed that airlines that were rolling out Wi-Fi in 2015 have reached near or full completion. This means that WiFi is becoming more of a “sure thing” on the 36% of available seat miles (a measure of an airline’s passenger carrying capacity calculated by the number of seats multiplied by the number of miles flown) that offer at least some chance of WiFi.
The Russian airline offers WiFi access on more routes than other airlines such as Emirates, Delta, Turkish Airlines, Singapore Airlines and Qatar according to Routehappy.
WiFi is available on board 35 long haul aircraft including 22 Airbus A330 and 13 Boeing B777.
Many US airlines are nearing the finish line for planned installations in 2016. For non US airlines, WiFi rollouts are in the earlier stages of installation and those airlines that do offer WiFi typically do so on their long-haul aircraft. There are 53 non-US airlines offering inflight WiFi with more in 2016.
