Boeing expects a demand of more than 35,000 new airplanes over the next 20 years worth US$4.8 trillion. The aircraft manufacturer also expects the world fleet to double over the next 20 years with passenger and cargo traffic growing 5% annually.

The single-aisle market (B737NG and 737MAX) is the main driver of the forecast. The growth of low-cost carriers and airlines from emerging markets will likely create the need for 24,670 new airplanes in this segment.

Widebodies such as Boeing’s 747-8, 777 and 787 Dreamliner will contribute to 8,590 new airplanes required in this segment as airlines replace their older fleet with more fuel-efficient new aircraft.

Asia Pacific including China is expected to lead the way in total airplane deliveries.
