The StarHub – M1 consortium has secured five lots of 2.1GHz wireless spectrum, including two FROR lots to expand and enhance the 5G coverage and services for Singapore consumers, enterprises and Government clients. StarHub will provide excellent indoor 5G coverage for customers with these additional spectrum lots. The auction prices were S$15.5 million per 5G lot and S$3 million per FROR lot.
In 2020, StarHub was the first in Singapore to launch 5G services. It now offers services via an award-winning 5G network that is on target to achieve 75% by the end of the year. Nationwide 5G coverage is expected next year. StarHub has launched a consortium of 5G commercial services including Mobile+ and Biz+ plans, cloud gaming with NVIDIA, Mobile Edge Computing, Digital Workplace, and 5G to IoT Platform Services.
The joint 5G network rollout with M1 allows both companies to optimise infrastructure spectrum costs as well as to reduce the carbon footprint of their 5G service offering.
“Network superiority is the backbone of StarHub’s newly announced five-year strategic transformation and growth programme DARE+, to give customers an ‘Infinity Play’ of endless connectivity, entertainment and other lifestyle experiences, as well as innovative business solutions, with frictionless digital-first engagement. StarHub looks forward to the finalisation of the spectrum allocation and utilisation,”
Chong Siew Loong, Chief Technology Officer of StarHub
M1 has also made a statement with regards to this new development – “The addition of the 2.1 GHz spectrum band to our 5G portfolio by the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) boosts M1’s wide-area coverage for 5G in Singapore, while enabling the flexibility of 3G services to continue. Leveraging both 2.1GHz and 3.5 GHz spectrum provides greater value of 5G to consumers and enterprises, and is very much a part of M1’s journey to support Singapore’s vibrant 5G ecosystem and its Smart Nation ambitions.”
