The new Sony Cyber-Shot RX100 III comes with a hefty price tag of S$1,199 but is now packed with even better features and upgrades that is worth that extra S$200 from the RX100 II. Even after this full suite of upgrades, the RX100 III amazingly still maintained its compact form factor.
Since the launch of the first RX100 camera, the Sony RX100 series has became the definition for a good compact camera with balanced features and image quality that even professional photographers will consider using it as their secondary compact camera. Now with a built-in high resolution EVF, it becomes more favourable to photographer who prefer to shot through a EVF. An EVF kit for the RX100 II cost about S$629, with the RX100 III you get to save more than S$400 from purchasing that additional kit while still able to retract it into the camera when not in use. SO COOL!
The other notable upgrades are the ZEISS Vario-Sonnar T* 24-700mm F1.8-2.8 lens and BIONZ X image processor. The new lens is now much faster at focusing and comes with big aperture that produce nicer bokeh and better performance under low light. The new BIONZ X which is first used on Sony A7 DSLR is now used on RX100 III to produce more realistic and detailed image quality with reduced noise.
And if you are looking to double up the camera as a camcorder, it now supports with pro-quality XAVC S format for high quality movie production. But for this mode you can only use a SDXC card instead of the normal SD cards, due to the high bit rate transfer of the recording.
The talk of the town is Selfie or Wefie these days. So the new RX100 III comes with a 180 degrees titling LCD to support your needs for self shooting. And with NFC and WiFi connectivity, it is easy to share your shots to social media right after your shot.
Overall the Sony Cyber-Shot RX100 III is a well rounded compact camera if you are looking for close to DSLR image quality and comes in a small package that you can carry in a pouch. It will be available in Singapore at all Sony stores and authorised outlets from June 2014 for S$ 1,199.
