Samsung gave us a sneak peek of the new Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 at the launch event for Note 20 series in August. It was stunning and way sexier than the Galaxy Fold which was launched last year. No more tiny screen in the front… FAT FINGERS like mine had a hard time typing on the Galaxy Fold. From that short preview in August, we only got to see the aesthetic upgrades and not much was told about the software side of things. So I’ve been keeping my fingers crossed. I hope there will be more exclusive features that will make a foldable smartphone more than just a bigger screen, and give us a feasible reason to pay those extra bucks for the Galaxy Z Fold 2. Well… the wait is over. And Samsung did not disappoint at all.
Let’s share the features we like on the new Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 that gives you the reasons to justify the purchase if you need to make report to that “Chief Finance Officer” or sort at home.
THE DESIGN IS MORE REFINED
For Samsung’s first generation Galaxy Fold, most of us were a little taken aback by that tiny 4.6″ front cover display which can looked very 2015 or earlier. So Samsung heard us and now they gave us a 6.2″ edge-to-edge Infinity-O Cover Screen that maximizes the usability of phone without the need of unfolding it every time you wanna check an email with fine prints.
Like the cover screen, Samsung also removed that annoying notch from the main screen and gave us a much smaller punch hole camera which is less distracting when you are playing favourite games in full screen mode. The unfolded main screen is now 7.6″ which is slightly bigger than Galaxy Fold and now comes with thinner bezel as well for a more refined look. Finally a very CHIO foldable phone.
To enhance quality, Samsung Ultra Thin Glass is now on the Main Screen, providing a more premium and refined feel for the display. Its design is anchored by the Hideaway Hinge, which fits seamlessly into the device body with the CAM mechanism and enables free standing capabilities that power all new Flex mode experiences. Galaxy Z Fold 2 also employs sweeper technology, first introduced on the Galaxy Z Flip, within the gap between the body and hinge housing to repel dust and undesirable particles.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 will be available in either Mystic Black or Mystic Bronze. You can show your style with Galaxy Z Fold 2 too. Customise the colour of the Hideaway Hinge to either Metallic Silver, Metallic Gold, Metallic Red, and Metallic Blue via an online tool when you make your purchase.
But sorry… just so you know… Singapore will not have this customised feature for your purchase. This service is only for Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, New Zealand, Portugal, Russia, Spain, Sweden, Thailand, UAE, United Kingdom, United States and Vietnam.
MULTI WINDOW TASKING MADE EASY
The main reason to get a foldable smartphone such as the Galaxy Z Fold 2 is the ability for multitasking via multi-window on-the-go. With advanced Multi-Active Window, you can control your screen layout with more ease and flexibility. Experience more productivity now that you can open multiple files from the same app at the same time and view them side by side.
With an improved Multi-Window Tray, you can open multiple apps at once with the integration of App Pair and the Edge Panel to enjoy added convenience. With drag and drop, you can simply drag text, images and documents from one app to another for instant transfer. Or quickly screen capture in one app and transfer the captured image into another seamlessly with Split Screen Capture.
Choose the most optimized UI on the Main Screen to suit your needs. Quickly and easily switch layouts between a large screen layout or traditional phone layout in the Settings.
MISSY’S IN CONTROL OF CAMERA ANGLE
One cover screen, one foldable huge screen. Samsung introduces the Flex Mode to Galaxy Z Fold 2 to maximise the benefits of having these screens for the best experience. With Flex mode, it’s now easier than ever to capture content and review in real time. With Capture View Mode, now you won’t have to leave the Camera app. Clearly see the photo or video you just took or review up to five of your most recent captures on the bottom half of the Main Screen, and the preview of your next shot will be on the top half. Or take your creativity one step further with Auto framing. Whether you’re jumping in on the latest social dance or showing off your cooking skills, the Galaxy Z Fold 2 can record hands-free video and keep the subject in focus even when it moves.
Rethink content capturing by incorporating both the photographer and subject’s perspective into getting the shot. Using the Main and Cover Screen at the same time with Dual Preview, both parties can see what’s being captured. What’s more, thanks to the Galaxy Z Fold 2’s flexibility, take a high-quality selfie with the rear cameras with the Cover Screen acting as the viewfinder.
The Galaxy Z Fold 2’s camera also offers flagship-level camera quality and control. With Pro Video mode in 4K 60fps, Single Take mode to help you capture one moment with different style, Bright Night and Night Mode for the best shot like a pro. But the Galaxy Z Fold 2 will not be having 108MP sensors like the Note 20 Ultra and S20 Ultra. The rear triple camera system will consist of all 12MP for wide, ultra wide and telephoto cameras.
UI CUSTOMED TO FOLDABLE PHONES
Maximize every moment in your daily life and upgrade the viewing experience of your favorite apps, including Gmail, YouTube and Spotify. Use the Main Screen with Office apps in Microsoft 365 to mimic the tablet experience. For example, use Microsoft Outlook to its true potential by viewing your inbox on the left side with current conversations at the same time. Draft Word documents, Excel spreadsheets or PowerPoint presentations with PC-like toolbar arrangements.
120HZ VIDEO AND STEREO AUDIO
120Hz screen refresh rate seems like the in-thing for 2020. So Galaxy Z Fold 2 must have it too. It comes with the AI adaptable refresh rate of up to 120Hz, this will help conserve the energy for longer lasting battery life.
The speakers on the Galaxy Z Fold 2 will be stereo and surround sound with Dolby Atmos technology for more immersive experience when watching your favourite action film.
