DO WHAT YOU CAN’T seems to be the unified slogan Samsung has introduced for all its product lines in 2018. Samsung wants to use the idea of “Intelligence of Things” to change the world. Creating intuitive features on its smart devices and putting it in people’s hands to make magic happens. All that can be seen in the general design direction for the Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+.

Instead of introducing a tons of new features that you might not use or only once in your life, Samsung had gathered some on the best features from various apps and put them into one spot to make it accessible in one place for seamless and ease of use. Samsung had also made sure that these features are compatible with other apps on the phones and viewable by other devices that you shared with your friends to minimise fragmentation across different devices and platform, working towards a connected life. Coming to stores from 16 March 2018, here are the things you need to know about the new Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+:

BETTER PICTURES AT NIGHT

Aperture at f15 gives you better shots in low light

Just the iris of human eyes, the Samsung Galaxy S9 series smartphone rear camera now opens up to a bigger aperture in low light and closes to a smarter aperture in daylight. Samsung had also introduced the biggest aperture of f1.5 to be used in a smartphone to date. The bigger the aperture means that the camera sensor can receive more light for a better photo outcome in low light conditions.

Together with Samsung’s noise reduction and multi-frame processing technology, you will be getting one of the best camera phones in the market.

SUPER SLOW MOTION IS HIP

Samsung is not giving you 240fps but 960fps video recording for that super slow-motion shot that turns a blink into a 6-second long video. That is awesome, but there is a catch here. Super Slow-mo only supports HD resolution that means 720p. Limited to 20 shots per video with approximately 0.2 seconds of recording and 6 seconds of playback for each shot. With the help of motion trigger, you just need to target the spot for the action and the camera will precisely capture that split second shot for you.

Add music to your Super Slow Mo videos

After capturing your shot, you can add music to your video with a random selection from preloaded choices or pick a song from your own playlist. You can also make it a GIF with three styles of looping: reverse, forward, or swing.

AR EMOJI IS SUPER COOL

AR Emoji

For those who like to send stickers and emojis on your messaging platforms, Samsung has made it easy to create personalised emojis with AR Emoji. All you need to do is take a selfie to scan your facial features and you will create an avatar that is ready for you to send as animated stickers and videos across most messaging platforms on your smartphone.

BIXBY IS SMARTER

Bixby, the smart assistant, is getting smarter with more features. Utilising the camera with Bixby, you can get an instant translation of foreign text without the need to download or open a separate translation app on your smartphone. Bixby can also help you track your calorie intake for each meal by simply taking a snapshot of your food and it will be sent straight to the Samsung Health app for easy monitoring.

At the keynote, Samsung also shared that Bixby 2.0 is coming later this year with more new features.

IMMERSIVE CINEMATIC EXPERIENCE

The Samsung S9 will come with 5.8″ edge to edge display while the S9+ will come with 6.2″ edge to edge display. Together with the dual AKG tuned stereo speakers and Dolby ATMOS, you will have the most immersive cinematic experience when viewing videos wherever you are. Samsung also kept the headphone jack to let you enjoy your music on-the-go.

MORE WAYS TO UNLOCK THE PHONE

Samsung has always been very generous in giving its users more than one ways to unlock their devices. So with the new S9 & S9+, Samsung introduces Face Recognition to unlock your smartphone. So now you can unlock using either Fingerprint, Iris Scan, a passcode or with your face. Samsung shifts the fingerprint scanner down to a more favourable position, just below the rear camera.
