Adobe just launched the new Adobe Photoshop Fix mobile app on iOS App Store and it is PRETTY amazing. For those ladies and some gentlemen who love fixing those flaws on their portrait shots via mobile apps, the bar has been raised by Photoshop Fix, which provides editing without losing image quality. This app will be a favourite for portrait & fashion photographers, having the ability to edit & upload to Adobe Cloud server for further edit via PC. This will save not just time but also access to simple face-fixing functions that are currently not available on Photoshop CC. Now you can also resize photo for free.
The feature includes more than just “face fixing”. It also includes Spot Healing which can remove unwanted objects in the photo to achieve that clean look. As well as colour replacement for subjects in the photo, smooth & sharpening, defocusing and lighting. All these may not be new, but, when incorporated with the ability to spot edit like a paintbrush on any part of the photo, it makes it a wonder app for a quick fix with precision, hence Photoshop Fix. I am so looking forward to using more apps like this when I get my hands on the all new iPad Pro with Apple Pencil.
We managed to have a quick hands-on with the new features of Photoshop Fix App. Here are the results:
Liquifying The Face
Well face warping is now made so easy with Photoshop Fix. The app automatically identify the main facial points which is spot on. So by clicking on respective points, different modification options will be presented to you.
So when you click on the points on cheeks or chin, you can now modify the Face Distortion (bigger or smaller head), width of cheek bones, slimming of jawline and position of the chin, all just by sliding the bar. That SIMPLE. No rocket science here and no technique needed for pushing (aka liquifying).
Clicking on the lip point, you will get the option to have thin or pouty lips… just like Angelina Jolie. If you want big nose like Jackie Chan, just click on the nose point and big eyes like Ayumi Hamasaki just click the eye points.
Yup. We noticed the distortion on the wall and spectacles. I guess that is the common flaw from liquifying. So do avoid backgrounds with straight lines near the face when using this feature. You may need to spend a little more time on the app to unwarp those lines.
It is really quite amazing how the app manages to maintained the quality of the image after the edit. Which I believe no other apps in the App Store can match this quality & detail.
Spot Healing To Remove Subjects
Well more often than not, when taking pictures we will get unwanted subjects in the composition. These can usually be fixed via a computer. But now with Photoshop Fix, you can brush on the unwanted subjects and away they go. Making a cleaner composition.
Colour Replacement
Don’t like that hair colour or that blue tee, just colour replace it. Zoom in, choose the hardness and opacity of the brush and select from the colour palette, you are ready to replace any colour on the photos. This is not as intuitive as the ones on Photoshop CC that comes with intelligent “Find Edge” technology, but it is good enough. Just take it as a kids colouring book, do not colour over the EDGE.
Verdict
Well the verdict is… I LOVE this app. Not as if I will use the face lift features but it does come in handy when I get requests from my “Models”. And the ability to spot fix almost anything in the photo makes it a must use app when I travel.
