Panasonic LUMIX GM1 is the world’s smallest Micro Four Thirds (MFT) interchangeable lens camera but comes with the image quality that is comparable with the recently launched Panasonic LUMIX GX7. LUMIX GM1 also comes with an affordable price tag that is comparable to the Sony RX100 Mark II at US$750 while offering a bigger sensor than the latter. LUMIX GM1 will be available in Singapore stores from December 2013.
The LUMIX GM1 will be a great choice for photographers who want to have a better image quality than your regular compact camera and yet offer the flexibility to change to better lenses for different shoots all in one compact body. The die-cast aluminum and magnesium alloy chassis makes the body look and feel premium while giving that retro style that is in trend these days.
Panasonic LUMIX GM1 features a 16 megapixel Digital Live MOS Sensor that is found on the GX7, which is able to achieve both high resolution and high sensitivity image recording with minimum noise. With the aid of Venus Engine for noise reduction, the images taken in low lighting conditions are great even up ISO3200. The auto focusing is also fast for this compact MFT camera system and with Wi-Fi enabled, it makes it easy to share your street photography shots onto social media platforms.

The 3″ TFT LCD touchscreen display is bright enough to use under the glaring sun, yet smooth & responsive to touch gestures just like your smartphones.
The compact 12-32mm lens is specially created for LUMIX GM1 to produce crisp and clear pictures. However, it would have been better if they did not remove the manual focusing ring on the lens and replace it will a touchscreen manual focus control which is slow to operate.
With 22 creative filters and 23 different scene modes, the LUMIX GM1 makes it an ideal camera for the masses too. The additional Stop-Motion Movie feature is very easy and intuitive to use. A great idea to make your very own Stop Motion festive greetings videos to share with your friends and family on social media. Check out the video we created for the test in less than 5 minutes.
Overall, the Panasonic LUMIX GM1 will appeal to the mass audience who needs a decent camera and also to professional photographers who want a handy camera that pops into the pocket when they do not want to lug their heavy equipment around.
Personally, I would wish to receive the LUMIX GM1 as my Christmas gift this year.
