Kirin Holdings Company, Limited has earned accolades in two categories at the CES Innovation Awards 2025 for its groundbreaking Electric Salt Spoon, launched in May 2024. The innovative device claimed awards in the Digital Health and Accessibility & Age Tech categories, standing out as a revolutionary tool for enhancing the saltiness and umami flavours of low-sodium meals, promoting healthier dining options.
The Digital Health category celebrates technologies focused on healthcare and wellness, including devices that support health monitoring, disease detection, and treatment evaluation. Meanwhile, the Accessibility & Age Tech category recognises innovations that improve accessibility for individuals with disabilities and foster independence for older adults.
The Electric Salt Spoon, created in partnership with the Miyashita Laboratory at Meiji University, uses a gentle electrical current and proprietary waveform technology to enhance the saltiness and umami flavours of low-sodium foods, such as soups and curries, by up to 1.5 times. Kirin Holdings aims to broaden its market through collaborations with businesses and local authorities, adapt the technology for other tableware, and explore its potential in developing low-sodium meal options.
This marks the first time Kirin Group has been recognised at the CES Innovation Awards. The company will also make its debut as an exhibitor at CES 2025, the world’s premier technology trade show held annually in January in Las Vegas, USA. CES highlights cutting-edge innovations across electronics and services.
