8 December 2011, Singapore – Bose Soundlink Wireless Mobile speaker was launched on 6 December offering a solution for music from a smartphone or tablet at the touch of a button.
The mobile speaker reproduces full-range audio from a single, hand-held enclosure. It measures 13.0 x 24.4 x 4.8cm and weighs 1.29kg. There are two variants of the speaker. The premium model comes with a brown leather cover, with bright Silver aluminium grille, polished chrome end caps with brushed metal end-cap inserts. The standard model comes with a slate gray cordura nylon cover, with black aluminium grille, brushed chrome end caps with black end-cap inserts.
The cover opens up and works as a stand. Pairing your device with the speaker is very easy as long it is within 10metres from each other. The speaker remembers the last six recently paired devices. What’s more, when you close the cover, the system shuts off.
The rechargeable lithium-ion battery allows you three hours of enjoyment at high volume and for more than eight hours at typical listening levels. It takes 2 to 3 hours to fully recharge the batteries. Furthermore these custom-made Bose batteries can be replaced using a hex wrench which comes with the speaker.
The speaker was tested in Bose’s labs to resist salt-fog, sand, wind and moisture. The automotive-grade chrome end-caps allow the speakers to survive repeated drops.
Accessory covers are also available so that you can customise your SoundLink speakers. The Nylon covers come in bright red or royal purple and retails for S$59. The leather alternative comes in burgundy or tan and are available at S$99.
The premium model retails at S$639 while the standard retails at S$549. These speakers can be purchased from Atlas Experience Audio Visual Boutique at TripleOne Somerset and Bose @ Millenia Walk
My take of the speakers: Great size for mobility and travelling. Connecting via bluetooth any mobile device to the speaker can be done with great ease. The sound is crisp and the treble works fine for me. Given the size of the speakers, the bass may be a little lacking. I usually enjoy my music with a lot more bass.
