Delta Air Lines’ 19,000 in-flight attendants will be equipped with the Nokia Lumia 820, a Windows Phone 8 device from 26 August 2013.  With Delta-specific customer experience developed by Avanade on the Microsoft Dynamics for Retail mobile point-of-sale platform operated over Wi-Fi and AT&T’s 4G LTE Network, the new devices will help the flight attendants offer near real-time credit card processing for on-board purchases.  These purchases include upgrades to Delta’s Economy Comfort seating on transcontinental and international flights for now before being offered on all Delta routes.  Convenient eReceipts can then be emailed to customers.  The Windows Phone 8 device will allow customers to use their pre-paid credit cards for on-board purchases and quicker transaction processing times.

The airline will offer customer-specific information to enable more personalised service in future.  This service is provided by Microsoft, Avanade and AT&T.  The airline is investing in technology for customers and employees.  In the past year, it has included the Fly Delta app for iPad, launched the new delta.com in December last year and revamped its self-service kiosks in September last year.  The Fly Delta app is also available on iPhone, Windows Phone, Android and Blackberry Smartphones.  Wi-Fi is offered on more than 800 aircraft.
