Water Polo Championships To Be Held In Singapore

The Third Asian Youth Water Polo Championships will be held from 25 to 30 September followed by the Third Asian Water Polo Cup from 1 to 5 October 2013 at Toa Payoh Swimming Complex.

Third Asian Youth Water Polo Championships

Under-17s from 10 countries will be competing for the Asian title.  The Singapore men’s youth team finished sixth in the last Asian Youth Water Polo Championship.  This year the Singapore Women’s youth team will be participating.  Formed in 1999, the women’s youth team has competed in the South-East Asian level and the top three teams from this meet with qualify for the World Youth Championships in Turkey (Men) and Spain (Women) next year.

Third Asian Water Polo Cup

Senior teams from seven countries will be fighting for the Asian title.  The teams view for the final spot in the 2014 World Cup held in Kazakhstan.  Only one qualifying spot is available for Asia as the host country Kazakhstan has qualified automatically.

Captain of Team Singapore (Men), Eugene Teo, said, “We are looking forward to the competiton come October, being held at home ground, we will aim to present good games for the local fans and improve our ranking in the Asia stage.” This will be the last international competition for the team before they head to Myanmar for the Southeast Asian Games at the end of the year.
