July 2011, Singapore – Singapore Telecommunications presented the Top 12 SingTel Grid Girls for the 2011 FORMULA 1 SINGTEL SINGAPORE GRAND PRIX on 21 July 2011. Out of the 500 ladies who participated, which is double the previous year’s entries, the 12 girls were personally handpicked by MediaCorp artistes-turned-celebrity scouts Elvin Ng and Rebecca Lim. Previous Grid Girl finalists Shahnaz Nazimuddeen, Christina Loh and Delphine Goh also took on the role of Grid Girl talent scouts to discover girls with potential. They were styled by celebrity stylist Fong Fan and photographed by Russel Wong.
In April, the search for the Grid Girls began where scouts combed schools, popular shopping districts and clubs for the potential ladies to represent SingTel and Singapore in this year’s race. Judges included Carrie Models MD Linda Teo, MediaCorp Publishing’s MD Jessie Sng, SingTel’s Chief of Multimedia Edward Ying and SingTel’s Director of Consumer Segment Marketing and Marcom’s Derrick Heng.
The top 12 girls this year are the tallest ladies in the history of SingTel Grid Girls competition with an average height of 1.7 metres. These girls come from a diverse racial mix of Mongolian, Thai and Taiwanese heritage. They will be appearing at roadshows to drum up public support to emerge as the top three Grid Girls of 2011.
They will be competing in some challenges and paritcipating in test-of-speed games suc as Fastest SMS Typist and Fastest Lap on the F1 Simulator at the Vivocity roadshow on 14 August. You can check out the SingTel Facebook page for updates on the girls’ activities and check out their photos.
From now till 4 September, you can vote for your favourite girls at http://www.facebook.com/singtel or via sms and stand to win a LG Optimus Black mobile phone.
Public votes make up 50 per cent of the final tally. These girls will win cash prizes of $10,000, $5,000 and $3,000 respectively, be at the front of the starting grid on race day, and be featured in a cover shoot for 8 Days magazine in the race weekend issue.
