235 Energy Singapore Race Driver Search 2012

14 February 2012, Singapore – The 235 ENERGY Singapore Race Driver Search is the first of its kind where one person will earn the opportunity to race in the Singapore round of the JK Racing Asia Series (formerly known as Formula BMW Pacific), a support race to the Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix.

The search aims to make motorsports more accessible by creating a sustainable platform to fund a racing programme. Anyone, regardless of level of experience, is eligible for this young driver development programme.

“Participation in motorsports is an expensive business and because of this, going racing is not something that most people would even stop to consider doing. With the 235 ENERGY Singapore Race Driver Search, we are opening up the possibility for people to explore their potential. When you purchase 235 ENERGY, you are fueling a hope, a dream,” says Dave Nair, director of 235 ENERGY.

How To Participate

Purchase eight cans of 235 ENERGY from NTUC FairPrice, FairPrice Xpress and Cheers between 18 December 2011 and 18 March 2012 and you’ll be entitled to one entry submission for the contest.

Phase 1 – Entrants go through psychometric evaluation.
Phase 2 – Selected candidates will go through a go-karting and simulator challenge.
Phase 3 – The top five finalists will undergo testing and evaluation in the single-seater formula car with Eurasia Motorsport.

The Eurasia Motorsport team has groomed and produced winners such as Daniel Ricciardo, now driving for Scuderia Toro Rosso Formula 1 Team in 2012, and Richard Bradley, the Formula BMW Pacific 2010 champion.

School Community Outreach

235 ENERGY will also introduce students to the world of motorsports and its benefits.

SJI International School will be the first participating school. 235 ENERGY will conduct talks and share the 235 ENERGY dream. All participating schools will be given one direct entry each for their student body to Phase 2 of the Search through a separate contest for the school.

“This is a golden opportunity and a valuable first step for what might possibly lead to Singapore’s first Formula 1 driver. It may seem like a long shot but at least there is a platform that exists for that prospect. Dreams are free and I encourage everyone and anyone to just give this a try – you never know what racing potential you may unveil from within yourself. There are no Singaporeans racing in single-seaters at the moment – we have Singaporeans racing in karts and cars only – and the last and only Singaporean who drove in a single-seater at the Singapore Grand Prix was back in 2009,” says Cheryl Tay, independent automotive consultant and prominent local motorsports personality.

“Motorsports is something that we at SJI International already embrace. We are not unfamiliar to motorsports as we have students actively involved in racing both locally and internationally, in go-karts and in single-seaters. We try to support them in every way we can and some of them are doing very well. We are delighted to be working with 235 ENERGY on their Singapore Race Driver Search to educate youths about the benefits of motorsports, as we have witnessed in our own students,” comments Brian Christian, principal of SJI International High School.

Further to receiving the prize, there is the option for the driver to pursue a full racing season for 2013 and 235 ENERGY is exploring opportunities for more partners to join the pursuit of the dream.

If successful, the 235 ENERGY Singapore Race Driver Search may become an annual campaign with plans to form a 235 ENERGY Racing Team Singapore.
