Online professional network LinkedIn crosses the 50 million member mark. Singapore joins Japan, Malaysia and New Zealand contributing to over 1 million members each while there are over 24 million in India, over 5 million in Australia, over 4 million in China. Indonesia and The Philippines has over 2 million members each.
LinkedIn has nearly tripled it’s membership base in Asia Pacific from May 2011 when it opened its regional centre here in Singapore.
LinkedIn is looking to introduce more features as Asia is in a growth position driving the global economy. It has added six Asian languages since opening shop in Singapore. It offers localised experiences for members and also introduced Asia-based influences including too executives such as AirAsia Group CEO Tong Fernandes.
In Singapore the top five companies followed are Google, Standard Chartered Bank, Hewlett-Packard, Apple and Shell. The top five industries represented in Singapore include IT & Services, Financial Services, Oil & Energy, Telecommunications and Semiconductors.
