French luxury hotel brand Sofitel celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. It opened its first hotel in Strasbourg half a century ago and today it operates 120 properties in 40 countries. Today it offers more than 30,000 rooms around the globe.
Sofitel is celebrating the occasion by commissioning Donald Williams of Global Arts Projects to curate ‘Iconic Paris’ an exhibition of compelling and evocative images of Paris by Melbourne-born photographer Jon Rendell in Sofitel’s hotels in Australia. Jon Rendell took most of the black and white photographs in late January 1987 just after the opening of the Musée d’Orsay. His photos show the familiar iconic images of Paris and follow in the tradition of other photographers including Henri Cartier-Bresson, Robert Doisneau, Brassaï and Eugène Atget.
‘Iconic Paris’ will launch in Sofitel Brisbane Central this month till 24 August 2014. After which, the exhibition will travel to Sofitel Sydney Wentworth from 1 September to 5 October, Sofitel Gold Coast Broadbeach rom 8 October to 9 November and finally Sofitel Melbourne on Collins from 9 December to 30 January 2015.
