27 February 2013, Singapore – Canon signed a three-year agreement till the end of 2015 with the Asian Tour to be its Official Imaging Partner. Canon will enjoy various benefits on the region’s elite circuit including the creation of the Canon Power Play segment on the Asian Tour Golf Show as well as branding opportunities across the tour’s events and worldwide media platforms online as well as on global television.
Canon South and South East Asia President and CEO, Kensaku Konishi was joined by the Asian Tour Executive Chairman Kyi Hla Han this morning to share this news. With this partnership, Canon joins other Asian Tour sponsors including official apparel partner Abacus, official communications partner BlackBerry, official headwear supplier Inetol Headwear, official beer Singha Beer, official ball Srixon, official hotels and resorts Starwood Hotels and Resorts and official timekeeper Rolex.
The Asian Tour sanctions, markets, manage, develop and promote professional golf tournaments in the region that form the schedule of events known as the Asian Tour. Its core activity is to generate playing opportunities and increase prize money for its members through the sanctioning of Asian Tour events. Its honorary members include Vijay Singh, K.J. Choi, Jeev Milkha Singh and Y.E.Yang.
In the 2012 season, Thailand’s Thaworn Wiratchant won his second Order of Merit since 2005 . Wiratchant won three times to become the oldest Asian Tour number one with an unprecedented 15 career victories. Asian Tour sanctioned 27 tournaments in Asia worth US$44.5 million to the region’s top stars. Outside Asia, Thailand’s Thongchai Jaidee become Asia’s living legend with a first victory on European soil in Wales while India’s Jeev Milkha Singh won the Scottish Open for his third title in Europe.
Sports has always been Canon’s main sponsorship platforms in this region. In Singapore, Canon has been a sponsor of Singapore Bowling, Canon Lion City Cup, Barclays Open for three years as well as the anchor sponsor for Singapore soccer team Albirex Niigata. Canon has also worked closely with the Singapore National Olympic Council (SNOC) to help raise the profiles of some of the Team Singapore athletes including swimmer Tao Li, soccer player Hariss, shooter Jasmine Ser, badminton player Derek Wong, bowler Jasmine Yong-Nathan and gymnast Lim Hwee Wei.
