11 September 2011, Singapore – The first Canon PhotoMarathon was held in Singapore in 2003, with about 200 participants competing that year. This year, the 9th Canon PhotoMarathon attracted a record breaking 2,078 participants. Apart from Singapore, PhotoMarathons are also organized in India, Vietnam, Indonesia and Malaysia. The Canon PhotoMarathon Asia, the region’s largest photo competition, aims to bring together photographic talent to raise the overall standard of photography in Asia and more importantly to have fun. Winners from each country-specific Marathon are then brought together for a photo clinic trip. This year, winners will go on an 8-day all-expenses paid trip to Tasmania, from 28 November to 6 December.

I have participated five times out of nine PhotoMarathon. Even though, I have not won anything yet, I still look forward to this event year after year. It’s not just about taking good pictures. It’s a challenge on one’s creativity to compose a picture that can deliver the Theme’s message in that three hour time frame. And every year, I meet old friends and make many like-minded new friends through this event. I am proud that two of my friends, Yvonne Lim Seo Ling (Instagram ID: el3) and Chester Chen (Twitter ID: JamCanSing), won 3rd prize (Theme: EAT) and 2nd prize ( Theme: IMAGINE) respectively. Ehhem …. I was also featured on Chester’s winning entry too (for your info I DON’T DRAG!). I love to share with you my work as well which are at the bottom of this post.
Here are the winning entries for this year’s Canon PhotoMarathon Singapore 2011:

your submissions are colorful and cheeky – sad that the hospital shot of EAT is chosen; not sensitive for canon – socially it is a stupid thing to focus on some ailments and other people’s difficulties and gain from it – that too in a competition…if it were a news item I can understand but to show somebody being fed in a hospital and making that the winner of the all the entries is very callous and insensitive I think.
I had no idea that was your entry for Circle! I remembered looking at it on the board and like getting glued to it. Very nice! 🙂
