More than 30 members of the music industry in Singapore are gearing up to celebrate Singapore’s 50th birthday by creating an original music album for Singapore.
The album which will be centred on the theme ‘Our Family, Our Home’, will be named ‘Sing, Love’ and will comprise five original compositions and accompanying music videos. The songs will be in a mixture of four different languages spoken here in Singapore – English, Malay, Mandarin and Tamil. The multilingual elements serve to reflect Singapore’s multiracialism.
The songs will be available for free download at www.imclive-group.com. Executive Producer of ‘Sing, Love’ Ruth Ling and five participating artistes shared their involvement in this music album earlier today at a media conference. Sezairi and Joanna Dong also made a debut performance of ‘Starlight’ which is available for free download from today.
‘Come Back to You’, ‘Simply, Love’, ‘Kite’, ‘Love Sings’ and ‘Starlight’ illustrates the artistes unique interpretation of Singapore and what family and home means to the singers. These songs were inspired by how Singapore can be personified as a long-time “family member” or “friend” that people feel familiar with, where Singapore is a point of origin and a secure base where people can return to feeling a sense of peace and belonging. The songs celebrate the life of everyday Singaporeans and all things unique to Singaporeans.
Sharing the inspiration behind „Sing, Love‟, Ms Ruth Ling, the album‟s Executive Producer and Creative Director (Music) said, “When we were thinking of ways to celebrate this milestone year as a music community, we thought, what better way to do so than through music? As Singapore traversed through time to become the globally-known little red dot, music also played a significant role in introducing Singapore to the world. Over the years, local artistes who gained fame overseas have helped to build a bridge between the overseas communities and us. Through their music, the artistes were able to engage their audiences to understand and appreciate our country and culture. We hope that „Sing, Love‟ will touch the hearts of many more both in and out of Singapore, and rally everyone to celebrate Singapore‟s birthday together.”
