Ms Porsche Poh Sow Chan wins the sixth addition of the Singapore Woman Award organised by Mediacorp on 21 March 2013 night at the awards presentation held at the Grand Hyatt Singapore.
Porsche is the founder of Silver Ribbon (Singapore), a non profit organisation set up in 2006 to combat mental health stigma and encourages early treatment. She provides free counseling for the residents and caregivers and hopes to educate the public to understand and accept mentally-ill patients. She has set up three centres to date.
Porsche, an only child, lost her father at the age of seven and her mum when she was seventeen. It took the 42 year old some time to find her direction, always reminding herself to something meaningful.
Two other outstanding ladies joined Porsche Poh at the awards ceremony including founder of the Bone Marrow Donor Programme Jane Prior and award-winning children’s book author Emily Lim. The judging panel included Singapore Council of Women’s Organisations President Laura Hwang, General Manager of Group Marketing Services of the Robinsons Group of Stores Donna Chua, 77th Street founder and president Elim Chew, Motivator and Author from Nanz Inc.com Nanz Komo-Chong, Associate Professor of Psychology from the Singapore Management University Norman Li, MD of MediaCorp TV Lim Suat Jien and MediaCorp NPP (Vasantham) Senior Vice President Chitra Rajaram.
The Singapore Woman Award celebrates the extraordinary depth that women have and the wonderful ways that bring their talent to further society.
